Red Deer Riders test their metal at Canyon Hill Rail Jam.

Red Deer - Sparks were flying as 48 riders from Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary brought their best tricks to The Source Monster Rail Jam held at Canyon Hill Ski Area last Friday evening. Local riders made the podium in all categories.

Red Deer’s Max Banville won a snowboard for the best single trick of the evening – a front flip 50-50 with a 180 off the rail. Hometown heroes Jaden Duggan won 1st place and Dylan Hermany tied for 3rd in the men 16 and older category; Alexander Romanov took 4th place and honourable mention in the men 15 and under group; and Kallie Murray took 4th place in women’s competition.

Women’s 1st place went to Calgarian Kelsey Morin; Edmonton’s Jack Dinius finished 1st in the younger men’s group. All the top finishers won iPods courtesy of Alberta Snowboarding.

A second snowboard went to another Red Deer rider in door prizes, as did Skull Candy earphones, skate decks, hats, hoodies and t-shirts – all prizing provided by event sponsor The Source.

Red Deer’s rail jam was the fourth in the series which has also had stops in Banff, Calgary and Edmonton. The events are hosted by snowboard club Riders on Board and made possible through funding from Alberta Snowboarding. The Red Deer event was also made possible through the donation of a rail to Canyon Hill from Riders on Board and Josh Duncan, COP’s pipe and park groomer who took time out of his week to build the course in Red Deer.

The final Monster Rail Jam is on Friday, March 6th at Canada Olympic Park.
